I've got my a holiday in three weeks to Mexico. The travel agent is suggesting pesos is the currency to take but when I was there 8years ago they were all desperate for us dollars.

With the USD seemingly at a good rate I would probably prefer to take that?

Has anyone had any experience of this lately, and what would you suggest?

If you want to bring back a couple of kilo's of finest Columbian, dollars.

If you want to mingle with the local's and enjoy the real Mexico, pesos.

Depends on where you're going to a certain extent. If you're going somewhere touristy shops will do the conversion automatically rather than rounding up or down to make it easier or advertise 2 prices. $1 is nearly 12 peso so I can't see them rounding it down, when I last went it was much closer to 10.

For going on holiday I got a credit card that has no charges for forgein transactions and 2% interest on cash withdrawals, much better than coming back with currency and getting done on the buy back.
