XK8 Convertible test
Discussion
Well I had a nice test drive in an XK8 convertible at my local dealers in Inverness and thought I would report here on how great a machine it is. I have a 4.2 XKR but this was every bit as good and a lot more comfortable on "rugged" roads that we have up here! The 5.0 ltr has as much poke even though it is a bit less bhp, tbh you can't notice that it has less and actually feels like more once the sport mode and dynamic mode is set. What a hooligan it becomes just raring to go and holding the revs and correct gear nicely - even in auto rather than using the paddles. A bit of road noise, not as much as my 4.2, but the wind noise is definitely more noticeable in the ragtop than the coupe. The adaptive suspension certainly kept the ride level and grip was excellent although I never pushed it to anything near the limit as I'm too timid/old/wise? for that sort of thing! Would I have one? Well yes, in coupe form and a darker colour than the silver I tried. Miss the supercharger? Not really - and with the price of fuel, cruising back down the A9 at a little over 75 leptons resulted in 37 mpg for that speed when we reset the trip computer. Now who will give me a good price for my 2004 XKR??? See classifieds on XKEC website

My brother has the supercharged one and it is absolutely fantastic. I'm sure the standard one is impressive too, it is also a very powerful car.

Okay then, 5.0 XK. Happy now, or have you got some meaningful comment to add regarding the car??
Well apart from the fact that you've headed the thread up as "XK8 Convertible test" It's more than a fair point that the XK8 and XK are completely different cars. It was a point raised rather than a dig, but hey such is.cardigankid said:
Did you find a significant difference between the supercharged and unsupercharged engines? I recently tried an XKR 400 and i don't know if all 4.2 R's are like that but man it was muscular!
There wasn't much difference between my Supercharged 04 XKR and the 5.0 non supercharged to be honest - BUT there is a huge difference between the Supercharged 5.0 and the non supercharged I drove ..........Gassing Station | Jaguar | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
