Right - narrowed to 2 but can't make my mind up
Discussion
Following on from my recent thread about a watch to commemorate my Father I have narrowed down to 2, been trying them on in Fraser Hart all lunchtime and just can't make my mind up.
First is this from the Longines master collection which I've been offerd at £1250;

Second is the Omega Planet Ocean for which I've been offered one at £2100;

Now I know it's a personal decision but I was wandering which of the 2 you would go for and why? Theres a fair difference in price obviously but thats not really the issue, I love both but in slightly different ways and am really to struggling to commit, 1 minute I'm adament its the Longines, the next I've changed my mind and its the Omega.

The points for me are -
Longines; shiney part of links in bracelet, roman numerals, cut-away numerals, black-on-white date - none of which do much for me although it's the more formal of the two.
Omega; bezel, baton markers (plus small numbers), non-chrono, white on black date, classic case, 'house' handset.
I'd opt for the Omega out of the two, although there's a world of choice at that price point.

both lovely watches, out of interest (wildcard coming!)...
does it have to be new?
It doesn't have to be but I'd prefer it. I've looked at loads over the last couple of weeks from a Railmaster to a Rolex Datejust (used), Tag Carrera and various others but keep coming back to these. The only used watch I loved was a Rolex Milguass but that was way over my budget.does it have to be new?

I have a Longines myself though not that model, lovely watch but I'd still go with the Omega and, more importantly, the model you've posted (with no orange!) in the smaller case size. IMO the PO works best when subtle.
I like the orange but IMHO it will date badly, not good when it's a keeper I'm after. I think I'll go for the Omega, the Longine is almost the sort of money whereby you can purchase yourself a pressie without feeling guilty.Edited by Zippee on Wednesday 22 June 15:45
