Idiot alarm question but...

I have had the Griff some ten months or so and always charged the battery fully each week.

The car has gone for its MOT and needed only minor work but thsi has now expanded into more work than thought and resulted in the car being at the garage for two weeks during which the battery has gone flat.

Now the real issue is that when I bought the car, there was no alarm fob (yes I can hear the sighs from hear) and Ihve not had a problem as the battery has not gone flat but now of course the immobiliser has operated and the car won't start.

Is there any way around this issue or is it simply a case of starting with a new alarm system (should have done this initially I know).

Please accept my apologies if this breaches any security issues but if someone could kindly PM me I would be grateful as I dont fancy having to spend a fortune if I can avoid it.

Interestingly one cracked spring ended in two springs, dampers, wishbones etc and I thought I was going go to get away lightly at this MOT.

welcome to TVR garages (well some of them any way).... always done fixed pricing with garages, never ended up with a bill less the £1k .. guess you authorised the work so recompence

The alarm and the immobiliser are seperate (but linked) systems. Activating the alarm also activates the immobiliser. Deactivating the alarm also deactivates the immobiliser. But if you don't activate the alarm or start the car the immobiliser will activate automatically after a few seconds.

If the immobiliser is working you must have a key to deactivate the immobiliser to drive it. There is usually a seperate immobiliser key that fits into a socket on the steering wheel for the immobiliser. If you don't have a key or the immobiliser is not auto arming then it sounds like someone has been messing with the alarm/immobiliser.

The alarm is deactivated by the press button key fob. Deactivating the alarm will also deactivate the immobiliser so I assume you mean the alarm is now activated because the battery has been disconnected and reconnected.

I don't know how to deactivate the alarm or immobiliser without the key fob or immobiliser key. As has been said Carl Baker is the man to help you out. Best thing is to give him a call, rather than email him. It sounds to me like you need to get him to check over your system because it will affect your insurance if it has been tampered with and is not working correctly.

Highly unlikely you need a new system and anyone who tells you that I would be suspect of. If its a META all the bits are available and Carl is the man having dabbled with well over 1,000 TVR's. I wouldn't trust anyone else with mine and I'm happy to pay his travelling to come up to Birmingham (he has done twice) as I can be safe knowing the job is done with no repercussions.
