Looking for help..

I will be turning 17 soon and will be looking to buy my first car. The difference is I don't want the usual Corsa's and Fiesta's etc.. Any idea's of what would be a good first car would be greatly apprecitaed. I mean anything. My budget is quite tight, looking to spend between £1000 and £1500.

I love the shape, but I doubt I would be able to get insurance even on a 316.

MX-....sorry i cant even bring myself to do it...

hmm, a nice diesel golf, bit different than most 17 year olds, (well from what i have seen)

or look for something a bit more unique and older that is a bit 'flash' but not crazy to insure.


though a last model fiesta is a nice car, tidy motor, classic mini is always a winner (cheap parts and can be repaired at roadside with basic tools!)

I would like something older, i know a guy who has a Volvo Estate which somehow appeals to me. I like the old mini, saftey is an issue though.

Not sure at your age but do any companies offer Classic insurance for 17 year olds?

Try fully comp, it can sometimes be cheaper than TPFT.
Add an older relative to your policy as a named driver.

Okay, its sold, but you might be surprised how 'insurable' one of these is at a young age if you ask the right people:

Who your mates are (because you'll only be able to take one of them to the pub at a time)
How to make a girls pants fall off with a loud exhaust (this may take some time to master and some girls may think it looks a bit like Noddy's car)

PS: I've just noticed half of that car is actually missing, but you'll find another, complete Dutton within your budget.

Get quotes on the E30. You might be very surprised how cheap it comes out on a classic policy with restrictive mileage.

Volvo estate could be a good shout, tanklinke, and insurer wont see it coming as a 17 year olds motor so could be cheaper, dont ask dont get etc.

Been down this road. Classic policy is restricted now to nothing more than 1300cc and no more than group 3. And not always cheaper, I got quoted £2400 on a Mk1 1.1 Fiesta where as a compare website gave me a lowest quote of £1900.

OP, look at Mk1 and 2 Fiestas. As well as Vauxhall Vivas. Thats what I have found out to be the cheapest for our age (17).
