A colleague has a 07' 320d which has been whistling away and now diagnosed as having a play in the turbo and imminent failure of the oil seals. Quote to replace is £1900. Once the new one is in, is there anything he can do with the old one to recoup some of his expenditure?

Is that main dealer prices?

If so , I bet that that price could be halved if he went the indie route and that turbo was removed and sent away to someone like AET for refurbing/reconditioning or if a alternative new turbo was acquired from them.

Quite a few places will refurb that for about £450.00. Piece of cake to remove/refit, so if its not covered under warranty, i would go down that route. I have used Essex Turbo before and they warrant their work. Most important to prime new turbo before starting car.

If it has a FBMWSH, try going down the BMW Good Will route. I did this with the GFs E46 320d when the turbo failed at 52k. They paid parts £700+ I paid £190 labour. Ask the service manager to contact BMW UK cutsomer services. If he won't do it yourself.
