A gamble worth taking or just pure insanity?

Hi guys, I'm still looking for my first Cerb.I know how important service history is but..There are a few about going cheap (7-8k) because they have precious little or no recent history.Now with a budget of 15 k for an ajp,is it a viable option to buy one & keep 8k to repair as and when,or just stay clear at all costs?

Mine has no history, and you can check my thread for details of the consequences. Nevertheless a service history is no guarantee of anything other than the expense the previous owner incurred.

With 8k in reserve as long as you dont buy a total scraper I would have thought you will be alright

Davey there is a fantastic, sorted silver SP6 for sale by G1ABB, he is building a Speed Twelve Cerb, it is around £15k. Well worth looking at, you might not have tried a SP6 Cerb but you should, there are great value at the moment and you will get a newer Cerb for your money. Not trying to move you from the AJP but well worth concidering.

G20RG B: Being my first Cerb,ajp or sp6 will be more than plenty for me so have I by no means discounted them.Would no doubt be as happy as a pig in the preverbial with either.I like the idea of a newer car a sp6 would give you for your money,less worn interior,a light conversion will be on the cards if it hasn't got one.So,1 minute its a sp6 then I think about how I much prefer a deeper rumble of the v8 & its back to square 1.For me, being somewhat retarded with a spanner ,maybe I should just focus on a sorted car that PH'da know,regardless of engine.

Is G1ABBs up for sale yet? Can't find it anywhere?

i have a 4.5 which is now fully restored, the 4.2 that i bought in the interim will be up for sale in two weeks.. it is perfect and hasnt skipped a beat.. i take it to france for my final farewell then i put it up for sale in july

Have you heard an SP6? Just as nice, if different, to my old 450 Chim. You'll love it. That silver cerb looks the business, I'd be interested myself but could never have a silver car - I hate them! Irrational I know. I've got my eye on nice red number - should close the deal tomorrow.

G1ABB s does look nice,the wheels really suit it.Andy we're the opposite way round! It's the red interior I can't make my mind up on,the silver I like.Which one you buying?Was it inSurrey? This car was for sale 18 months ago when i was looking for a Cerb and came highly recommended by a number of people; i also saw it at a TVRCC event and the red interior does look much better in the "flesh", also i think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the Speed 6 engine note, especially if it has a sports exhaust, it's not got the deep rumble of an AJP, but in my humble opinion still sounds nicer

Cheers. Actually the red interior doesn't do it for me either. The one I'm after isn't the Surrey one - it's red metallic on the outside and I'm going to have the inrerior, which is a bit tatty, retrimmed. It has good history, a rebuild and drives well, so fingers crossed it proves a good one. I'll use it as my main car, rain or shine, but we have a back
up as well for when it breaks down.

Good luck too - but a word of caution/advice: from what I've seen, the interior wears badly. A 10+ year old car does not wear it's age well and building a retrim into he budget is not only wise but opens up extra possibilities if you like the outside and mechanicals but not the interior.

Mmmm, that looks nice, my fave colour combo, Silver with red, just needs red carpet IMHO. Like the wheels too, much better than the fugly SP12's others go for.

Hi everyone.

Just noticed this thread.

I have builders in and the scaffolding poles extended a little further than anticipated, hence silver surfer is firmly stuck in the garage. I've just been out to warm her up and came in for a quiet read and spotted this thread. Anyhow, this is why the advert was removed. (If anyone does want to contact me then seriously interested persons only please)

Good news is W112 is well on the way to being recommissioned and the other speed 12 is progressing well.

PS the speed 12's are not at my home address and please - no time wasters!

If I had 15 grand I'd buy that. The way a car has been looked after is probably more important than a service history. (If that doesn't appear to make sense, I hope you know what I mean )

i bought mine with no history, get the car inspected though, if the chassis is ok, i wouldnt hesitate

I had the chassis inspected in March and it received the big thumbs up, along the lines of best one seen for that year. Also, chassis was treated by RT racing a couple of years ago to keep it in A1 condition.
