To me, Ford S-max is the safest bet. They do go well with the 2.5 unit!!

ETA - not sporty looking??? Believe it or not, it is possible for them to look sporty!

Excuse the link, I'm on iPad so can't attach an image. That is one we had in a few weeks back, looked lovely if you're into a 'sporty people carrier' look?

How frequently do you need the 7 seats....can you go fast estate with 7 seat option?

Volvo V70R?
Mercedes E class AMG?

Does it have to be a 1 box design with 7 full size seats, or would an 7 seater Merc estate do the job?

Why would you want to go fast carrying 7 people?? confused

Just buy something interesting and fun. Or split the budget to a utensil and a toy.

Zafira VXR / GSI... I bloody love these things!

What about a T5 Volvo??? I remember being neck and neck with an older T5R in my 280bhp TT!! The estate was rapid! The guy also had 3 kids in the back!

What I'd suggest is making a new topic/thread for every idea or question that comes into your head.

I'm sure you can get 2 rear facing seats in the boot of a Mercedes E-class so that could range anywhere from a E320 cdi Sport to an E55 AMG.

OP, this is Pistonheads. Here, we all know that people carriers are for people who have given up on life. What you need is an Audi Q7, that'll make you feel like a man.

Once a fortnight??!! Do the real man thing and buy a caterham! I'm sure the kids would love a blast down a b-road (one by one, of course)

I didn't know Q7's had come down to 12k!

As for the Alhambra, it's more palatable than fast. And boat-like round corners.

No offense, but for use once in every 14 days. Would it not be more logical to spend £1k on an old Espace or something and the other £11k on something like a TVR or a Lotus?

I think that that's an oxymoron but there is no price range listed. I think you should just get two cars a fast one and a utilitarian one if possible with the saving left over from whatever it is you call vans in the UK and then buy some fast toy for when you don't have 6 other people with you.

The estate car route will work if two of the children are between about 4 & 10. My Volvo was an mpv until the children got too big. Over 10 you'll struggle with anything short of a full size mpv - I challenge you to sit in the back seat of a zafira or smax!

OP, if you really want to blow £12k on a 7 seater how about one of these instead. Not fast but HUGE fun and kids will love it. Also according to the DfT it's the safest vehicle on UK roads.
