Engine tuning for AJP8??
Discussion
Hi Guys
I like the 4.5 AJP8 engine but cant find much info on it so I have a couple of questions for you.
Have any AJP8 engines been turbo charged?
What does the engine cost to buy new and second hand?
How much does the engine weigh?
Does the engine come with dry sump?
Any info will be good,
Cheers, mark.

None have been turbocharged. A big job for this engine, wasnt designed for aspiration in mind.
New ECU, lowered compression, new design manifolds, new maps etc etc etc... and thats before you even buy the chargers themselves and associated parts.
Although the speed 6 has now been adapted to support a supercharger....

There's been NOS stuck on AJP engines, lots of re-mapping work done on it, etc. But no change to the normal aspiration that I've seen. The engine's not a drump-sump design. The engine's really light (can't remember the exact figures).
The factory will do the "red rose" conversion on it to get extra power. TVR Power (factory owned place) will do a number of upgrades, including NOS; www.tvrpower.co.uk/upgrades.php. Cheapest option is one of the aftermarket ECUs that have recently been developed.
Very few of the engines come up for sale second hand, as there are very few of the cars to start with. They get written off every now and then (like the one in the ads at the moment). Not sure if TVR will supply you with a crated engine. Knowing how funny they can be about stuff, I doubt it.

Wasnt there a Belgian 4.2 that was turbocharged??? Remember reading about it years ago on the Cerbera egroups...
Dunno. Not heard about that one. I did look into getting a turbo/supercharger (more likely the latter) fitted to mine when I had it, but never really got anywhere. Everyone seemed far more interested in my idea of sticking a RR spec S6 engine in the back of an Elise. 550BHP/tonne anyone?

Nutter! Luckily for the safety of the world the 6 pot would never fit in there, unless you didn't want the rear clam on - could make maintenance a lot easier! Now the V8 might be able to fit though. There'd be some spectacular cooling issues to overcome first though
Cheers,
Rob

I measured it all up, and it looked like it would fit as long as I got rid of the boot entirely. Would probably frig handling completely though, as it'd turn the mid-mounted design into a rear-mounted one.
