Watch Winders... which one do you have.
Discussion
Yet another topic I must get out of the way in the pursuit of buying a mechanical watch.
Goldsmiths recommend a £300 one that I presume its probably a Rapport one at that kind of price.
Then there is something like this:
http://www.swisswatchstore.co.uk/products/17
at £129
or a load more here:
http://www.automaticwatchwinder.co.uk/special-offe...
which do you have (I want at least a dual one) and is there any brands to watch out for?
Im not that fussed about it being wood, etc... but in the same respect I dont want to buy something that is crap and not worth it, I would rather buy it once and buy it right.
It will be needed in some cases when Im out all weekend and need something to keep it ticking over, just in case you all turn round and say not to bother.

I use this...

It's a Beco modular system. Those four winding boxes sit on a base with electrical contacts that power them. You can stack up to 12 winders and run them all from the single base and single power supply. It seemed like the best option since you never know what you might end up blowing your money on in the future
The four winder bundle with the base and power supply was around £250, then each extra winding box is around £60.

I've heard bad things about the reliabilty of the Rapport ones, especially for what they cost!
I have an Official Time 6 watch winder which looks great and works well and I also have a dual Time Tutelary one which is not the best looking but at the price, very functional!
I have a Navitimer Olympus semi-perpetual which has always been the main reason for owning a winder, but with 8 autos I like the fact that I can just open the box and 'watch and go' knowing that the time is correct and the date set!

I bought one of these recently as my other winder is full

Feels cheap (cos it is) however seems to do the job fine.
£300
I have one of these for £47.99 http://www.watch-winder.co.uk/Black-Wood-Single-Wa... They do ones for 2,3,4 etc watches

Not a necessity but I can't be assed to set the time, date & dual time if I don't wear mine for a weekend.
But you have to take it off the winder and put it on?Leave 'em in a draw.

I don't think you understand, it does not stop between taking it off the winder and onto my wrist. It probably keeps time for about 24 hours without being on my wrist or on the winder.
No I don't think you understand:You have to spend time taking it off the winder. What exactly is saved?
I don't mind if you, or anyone else, have a winder, your choice.
You'll find though, as this thread shows, folks are very quick to show you their winder with several photo's - that's what they're for.

Watch winders are only for telling or showing folks you've got one. They're neither a necessity nor luxury, merely a complete irrelevance.
Why would anyone want to 'show folks you've got one'. Bizarre comment. If you have a collection of automatic watches, a winder is incredibly useful - particularly for watches that can't adjust the date function quickly. Some watch makers recommend auto winders as automatics don't benefit from being stopped.
In my experience the service intervals have lengthened on several of my watches since using winders.

Really I don't give a f
k who's got a winder or not - but - they are an irrelevance. No, auto's don't suffer from being stopped, probably the opposite.

Its makes no difference in time to open a draw as you suggest and opening the lid on my watch winder. I then avoid dialling 123 to find out what the time is and setting that, then turning on the computer and googling the time in New York to set the dual time.

Oh God, how do you manage?I then avoid dialling 123 to find out what the time is and setting that, then turning on the computer and googling the time in New York to set the dual time.
Don't you have clocks where you are? :-)

The reason for posting pictures is to show the OP the differences in watch winders as he asked for some advise.Really I don't give a f

Not for my benefit or yours.
If you don't like them (clearly a massive hatred) then I suggest you don't buy one.
