Okay so for a number of years due to friends in low places I have been able to get my hands on one of the best passes you can have for Le Mans.
This year was offered the opportunity to work in the pits and took it with both hands.
As the week progressed though I started to feel that perhaps I should have kept the LM week as the one time each year where I am at a race track but don’t have to work. Okay it might mean that I no longer have access to a Golden Ticket as I have had to give up the one I used to have to another soul but when I see things like the video of the Razzorlight concert, the Drivers parade pictures and the general usual fun and games I start to wonder if the grass is greener.
So what would you chose?
1. ‘Normal’ GE ticket, pitch on Houx and no real responsibilities other than to keep breathing for the whole week,
Or
2. ‘Golden Ticket’ (seriously the only places it wont get me are the big corporate hostility tents and it can even open doors there with the right names dropped) motor home inside the Bugatti circuit and have to work Friday, Saturday, Sunday but with the sop of having full pit lane access.

I think there is so much stuff to enjoy in and around the track over the whole weekend, That I would choose to be part of the crowd, rather than one of the VIP's where everything is a bit too formal and you can't chill/let your hair down etc..
In our group we had both friday and Saturday night where we dressed up/fancy dress and it was a blast!
As you have seen with the pics and video

I think my problem is that I have always had a very good ticket and been able to get to places most can't reach which has spoiled me a little. This year was the first I had to 'work' for my ticket although I also had even better access than before.
I realise that it is a question to which the answer is personal to each but wondered if I was being a bit of a wally considering walking away from having what is basicly the top pass anyone can get short of ACO top brass.

I think if i'm honest as I usually get to join you Le Mans week, i'd go with what you usually do. You get good access but still have chance to enjoy the lighter side of the week. Although I wasn't with you this year I just get the feeling that the extra work/responsibility diluted your experience. Not enhancing it. I saw your pics from your access and they were great, but, I get the feeling you missed out on alot of the usual social aspects of the week.
Anyway, pass regardless, I won't be missing next year.

As a photographer I've had privileged access to many high profile events and while its incredible to be so close to the action and the drivers, it is still work. With Le Mans I'd love to have a golden ticket so that I could get better photos but its just too damn fun as a spectator! I suppose for me, the ideal combination would be a photographers pass for the test weekend and a general admission for the race.
