Hi all,

Picked up a cheeky MK3 Golf GTI on the cheap the other month and its time for me to lower it and give the wheels a refurb.

Here lies the problem. I got 3 of the stty locking wheel nuts off but one has been butchered by the previous owner and wont turn with the socket provided. I cant get that good of a grip on it cause it seems to be sleeved also.

Does any kind PH'er have any ideas or some spare time to help me remove it? I tried drilling it also but the bolt is toughened and just blunted my drillbit.

Help please! Beers and pies can be provided.

Dan

Could you get to VW? You'll need them for a new locking wheel nut afterwards?

If you still need some help by Saturday Dan gimme a shout, I'm not around until then.

I've had to drill some out in the past.

Sounds a plan mate, do you have the required weapons needed?

take a socket a little smaller in diameter in size, get a mini sledge hammer and hammer it hard over the nut then take your wrech to connect and loosen.

Joking aside you can buy special sockets that lock onto the nut which have a rifled profile these are for rounded nuts and are designed to be hammered on

Struggling to find the socket you mention in the size I need...

The locker has 3 pin holes in it for the socket so hammering a smaller socket in is not an option...

Keep the ideas coming though!

Screwfix sell an emergency removal kit, (thieving bds must love these)

http://www.screwfix.com/p/laser-emergency-locking-...

Quite expensive but may do the job.

Does the removal socket fit?

If it does can you not get one of those Gator sockets to fit on the end.

It does with a good hammer on but soon slips off.

The actual head of the bolt has been twisted. This has made the holes for the socket more oval that round. Its just a twisted mess really.

If you hammer an impact socket on to it (slightly smaller) it should do the job, but it does need to be whacked on!

I've removed several of that type with a normal socket as mentioned.

Just hammer one on smile

Ok ill give it another go. Just struggled to get it over the head of the bolt as it's so twisted out of shape and didn't want to ruin any of my sockets.

I will see how I get on tonight and report back.

The old 'Trilock' locking wheels nuts/bolts, john3883's method has worked for me in the past with this variety of locker.
