Some of you may remember that over Easter I got nicked doing 60 odd in a temporary 40 limit (temporary for no obvious reason. No roadworks, no people, just a few cones and a talivan). Now - I live in Ghana. I called and said I was a non-resident and what should I do?

Man on phone said, give us your Ghana address and 'I can almost guarantee that we will not progress it'. Superb. I did as he instructed, helpfully provided copies of passport with residence permit etc.

All goes quiet. Surely off the hook.

Then yesterday - by some absolute miracle, a letter arrives in Accra, Ghana, from Northants police. They have already sent me a conditional offer (which I never received) and I have 7 days (from 20th May) to pay £60 and get 3 points.

Rang 'em up, said it would take at least a month to get the payment to the UK with my license. They (Laura at 11.55am) said that it would be no problem - they would delay the summons.

Know what? I'll pay without fuss. If Northants police are so hard up that they have to trace hardened criminals like myself to West Africa, then it is my duty as someone born and bred in the county to help them out.

B*st*rds.

Send them a "Nigerian Scam" type letter. Ask for their bank account details and say you'll credit the money directly to it - Streaky
