My current engine is in a bit of a state, does anyone have or know of a working 3.6 Speed Six engine?

PS. Seen the 3.6 in the classified, but wanted to check if there were any other options.

None received:

I have found a 2005 engine which only cover 1800miles before it demise in a crash available at a breakers, unfortunately no history on the engine:

If I bought this engine it would be under a 30 day guarantee and I would be able to return it if it failed to make 340bhp on an engine dyno/smoked or any of the parameters weren't good.

Is this a sensible idea?

Aside from checking whether it has the chill cast valve guides as opposed to the phosphor bronze ones what checks should I make?

I would be very carefull if buying from a breakers, especially if no history comes with the engine.

Take your time, choose well, Im sure one will come up soon. Is it not worth getting your own one fixed, Might be a bit more expensive though £5-6k.

You do see the odd engine come up in the classifieds but not that often and only if someone is changing to say an LS engine and sells the SP6 to recover some costs of the LS build.

Which engine?

With the 3.6 in the classifieds it appears to be a decent re-build spec with low mileage with the exception of the use of the phosphor bronze valve guides which I have been told have a propensity to fail. That would be my fall back option as there is a fair chance it would need a top end re-build in about 20,000 miles.

With my engine:

Miss fire, equal pressure between two cylinders (which is either a head gasket failure, valve failure or cracked block), worn cams and followers, oil scavenge pump not fully functional.

The engine is a re-build (to "Red Rose" standard) from a supposedly reputable engine re-builder who are in my opinion really monkeys.

Until I get the engine out and strip it I won't know what's wrong but it would be a £5-6 job to put everything right even in the best case scenario. I would rather put a straight standard 3.6 with all the relevant upgrades back in.

Have you considered a TVR power exchange unit?
