Friday afternoon, blackwall - M40 - best route?

I bet a few people here do this precise thing every Friday afternoon, so how (as in by what route) do you do it? Not hard to think of a few ways of doing it, but I'd like to pick your brains and get the best. Best meaning time wise in this case, in a decent but unexceptional car.

I'd avoid any central routes inc. the A406/A205 and be aiming for either N or S side of the M25 to get there. Not much in it either way (if anything). But as always it's a total gamble which would be best at any time it's that narrow.

If I had to make a choice right now, I think I'd opt for south side M25 to avoid the Friday escapees to t'North.

To be honest that is a PITA journey any time of the day let alone doing it on a Friday afternoon, I would agree that M25 is the best route......However it really does depend on accidents roadworks ect, I would give myself at the very least 2 hours to do it if your leaving before 3, any later than 4 ish to be honest its potluck any way you go expect it to be busy and very slow !

A2 to Vauxhall, cross over the river then follow the embankment upto the A40. Easy and rarely congested.

M25 is covered in roadworks around NE and SE sections, as is north circ. South circ always slow in SW London.

BH you may be right however i would also agree with other poster. m25 south clock will always be a better route due to roadworks at m1.

The roadworks on the clockwise M25 at J10 get pretty nasty, plus the whole western section is horrific on Friday afternoons.

Not that i have noticed since they only have one set of cameras there now. West is a mess both ways rush hrs but as a rule i now avoid the m25 anti clock through m1 section as its a mess.
