Just to clarify

I have given a cheque post dated to Friday July the 08th ,

am I right to assume that this will clear in 4 working days , So the earliest that the money would be taken from my bank would be wednesday the 13th July ?

thanks

Not if you bank with RBS, they ignore the date on a cheque and pay it as soon as it's presented. They will not hold back payment to a later date.

I think the idea of a post dated cheque is so that the person you give it to does not present it until then? I'm sure if they presented it then more than likely the date on it would be missed?

Apparently post dated cheques have no basis legally. They are a promissory note valid the moment you present it to someone.
Just schedule a BACS payment.

Banks don't even look at signatures these days so I doubt they would notice a date.

If the person holding the cheque waits until the 8th, then the money should be decucted from your account 2 working days later, ie the following Tuesday, unless they happen to bank with the same bank (not branch) as you then it would be deducted the same day.

Bear in mind that if the payee banks with the same bank as you the money may go from your account the day the cheque is paid in.
