Our original plan to go to Australia is look increasingly unlikely, even a 10k budget won't go that far and will mean we'll have to compromise on the level of accomadation etc.

So I'm looking for more ideas, can take around 4 weeks 8-10k budget, less is also good!

If I had to describe our requirements it would be part relaxed, romantic, adventure, good food, and cultural.

Doesn't have to be one country but not the US as travelled there allot and I'm also a wanted man for an outstanding speeding ticket.......

Best starting off with a list of where you've been and liked to give us an idea, but also to cross stuff you've done off.

Otherwise we'll be 3 pages in before someone comes up with somewhere you've not been.

What about SE Asia? wink

Ten bags for a months honeymoon isn't enough? Op you clearly have high standards! try somewhere like Thailand where your buck will go further?

Yep, absolutely.
Thailand can give you some superb value for money, if you know where to look.
Probably the best value for money long haul there is at the moment.

Why stop at Thailand? You've got Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar etc all close by. And your money goes a lot further out there.

Thinking outside the box, 10k would get likely you a suite on a cruise stopping at a variety of locations, plus the pre-requisite excursions.

Have you thought about Kenya? Think it will tick all of your boxes, except the food one perhaps

The food at Governors Il Moran really is superb considering you're in the middle of the Mara. We did a four day safari with them as part of a twin centre honeymoon in combination with Mauritius. Came in around 5-6k iirc so well under the OPs budget.

Thanks for all the replies. Thought of a tour of Thailand and some surround areas but wasn't sure if the weather would be all that great in May/June time? Kenya coupled with somewhere else sounds like a good shout too.

Looked at cruise and stay options over the weekend, maybe a weeks cruise then a couple of other place for a week in the Caribbean.

Came back yesterday from our honeymoon:

4 Days San Francisco
2 Days to drive the Pacific Coast Highway to LA
4 Days LA
4 Days Hawaii

From this trip I concluded the following:

1. Ford Mustang V6 is actually better than people would have you think... driving appropriately (but not silly fast/slow) I got 31.5 US MPG over 1047 miles
2. Don't fly United Airlines... our bags are now missing in action, we went back to the gate 3 times in Honolulu but were still in time for our connection at LA from which we were bumped 2 minutes before boarding closed as "they didn't have enough seats", our bags were to be transferred to the new flight and weren't (still not here 48 hours later) and the flight from LAX to Honolulu was delayed hours.
3. Pacific Coast Highway is gorgeous
4. Don't fly United Airlines
5. Mustangs auto lock the passenger compartment when you shut the boot... leaving the keys in the boot by mistake can make one look a fool
6. Don't fly United Airlines
7. The Serrano Hotel at Universal Studios is very nice but has thin walls- you can hear the neighbours party all night long before your early flight (that's delayed anyway)
8. Did I mentioned you shouldn't fly United Airlines?
9. The Kahala Hotel and Resort in Hawaii is glorious and well worth a visit
10. Swimming with Dolphins is something everyone should do, and that comes from someone who hates swimming at all
11. Pearl Harbor is very moving and it's worth having a guided tour at the aviation museum for some real background knowledge
12. Don't fly United Airlines

All in we were away 15 nights and it cost us about what you're budgeting for that. We cut some corners in San Francisco on the hotel in order to be able to go to the Kahala but it was well worth it overall.

Other options we decided against were - Canada (schedule wouldn't allow us to do everything we would like to and it would have ended up just passing through not enjoying places), Thailand (Decided USA offered a better compromise). Either way we took the view that we would make sure it was an area we didn't skimp on.

Kind regards

Chris

Ah ooops - blame it on the Jet Lag (or illiteracy... one of the two)...

OK in that case I'd go for Peru - that was a pretty good two weeks we spent there a few years back. Beautiful scenery, very dramatic and wonderful food.
