V5 - How long have you waited ??

I bought a car on 17th may 2011 and i still havent received my V5 document?, DVLA say wait the full 6 weeks.

The guy i bought it from is 100% certain he poted it. If i need to apply im sure it will cost me £25 (i read somewhere)

Also, im sure i read that the DVLA are changing the colour of the form so this will prolong the wait, i cant bloody find where i read that now?

Does anyone know about this.

I purchased a car in the 1st week of May.. recieved logbook in the post yesterday.

I purchased a car last July, prevous owner sent the slip away the same day I picked it up but I never received a logbook and had to apply for a new one; you can always check with them by calling them up and giving them your address, they'll be able to say yes it matches or no that's not correct.

I believe if you have the new keeper supplement then applying for a new one wouldn't cost you anything.

Not sure about change of colour, but my V5 turned up a few weeks ago with a ruddy great caveat slapped all over it to the effect that the V5 does not prove title.

Anyway.

If a V5 doesn't come to the new keeper on change of ownership, you can apply for one after the six weeks (30 working days). I had to do this in the autumn. I think I had to get a form from the Post Office (and I had the existing v5 bar the part the former keeper needed to send off).

Didn't cost anything.

Posted my tearoff at the end of March, received the V5 the middle of June. That's about 10 weeks to perform an almost certainly fully automated task.

I imported a car in April, had some work done on it and finally got the MOT and all paperwork to send to DVLA including my ORIGINAL driving licence. Which is issued by????? Why do I need to send this? they are the same people....

Anyway, was told that it was 48 hours for a new reg (assuming all paperwork in order). Took two weeks and that included me paying for the tax for that time as you buy it for that month. And when I phoned to ask, they were dismissive as they have been busy. I had to beg them to do it and send out asap. It was becoming easier to consider cloning some plates and going illegal, there were so many delays and beaurocratic red tape.

And they are possibly going on strike soon. Will we even notice?

And there is absolutely nothing you can do about it all, nothing. If they don't meet their advertised timelines, tough.

I've found things to be a bit more efficient if you go to one of their regional offices - not convenient for everybody but you can get proof and receipts for the documents you submit rather than trusting RM with items.

I called the number i got off the .gov site but it as an automated message saying if it not turned up by such and such date apply for a new one, you can download the form from the .gov site

Each year they get slower and slower - maybe more people driving and more cars to deal with.

Sent mine off yesterday, with a postal order for £25 which, actually cost me £28.13,
and I had to pay for that with cash because they would not accept any form of card payment, including debit.

Can take 2 weeks or 2 months who knows what goes on inside the dvla, seem quite slow at the moment.

Mine took about a two weeks from collection of vehicle and then about 5 days once I sent off for my private plate transfer to get the necessary documents.

I was pretty impressed how efficient the process was

Ive had 27 cars, this is the only 1 thats taken ages so my guess is its lost or he never posted it
