Throttle bodies, Carbs, Injection ?

All ways of getting fuel into an engine I know, I kind of understand carbs and injection with the former being the old. low tech way of doing things with less economy and the new fangled injection being the way its been done since the eighties by and large and has been more reliable/predicatable/economical, not so sure on the Throttle Bodies side of things so can you enlighten me to their virtues and pitfalls, seen a few cars with them on but they seem to be witchcraft as does the practice of bolting bits of motorcycle to your engine to acheive the same effect.


So any fueling gurus care to change my preconceptions about Carbs and injection and tell me about the new stuff (relatively) as I get all agitated when looking at cars in the classified with such things fitted.

Independent throttle bodies usually give a bigger intake area when compared with a single throttle body, so you get a bigger volume of air entering the cylinders, which obviously increases power. Because they're fitted closer to the intake valves, you generally get a better throttle response than using a single throttle body too. I think you'd get better air distribution to each of the cylinders compared to using a manifold as well.

The downsides are that it's an expensive conversion, and can affect fuel consumption quite alot. It's quite a bit more complicated that using a single throttle body too.

Generally you need other modifications to make ITBs worthwhile.
