Doe's anyone know how I can stop my clutch pedal from squeeking when depressed or released..?

I have a 97 4.0L Chimaera which has just developed the problem above havn't noticed it before. I have read steve's bible but this dosn't seem to be covered.

Any ideas to solve this one....?

Thanks,

Jon

Depends where the squeek is coming from. It could be the first sign that the clutch master is on its way out. Replacement or resealing is the usual cure. It could also be a problem with the release bearing or arm on the clutch itself. This usually requires dropping the gearbox to get access.

....or if luck is on your side; like mine (with 300 miles on clock) needed some wd40 on the linkage about half-way up the pedal.

Amazing stress-relief.

Mine does this too, it has been like it for some months now. The guys at Towerview lubricated something in the mechanism which cured it for about a day. Luckily the clutch still works 100% so it seems I'm stuck with it unless I take drastic gearbox out action, which isn't really worth the expense just solely to cure this noise.
Although it is bl**dy annoying and embarassing as it can be heard by passers by when I stop at junctions!

I don't have a squeek, but I do feel a clonk (like the pedal has just dropped an inch further) every so often. Its a bit disconcerting but it has always done this since I've had the car (2 years now) and I have had a new clutch fitted in there at some point.

any thoughts ?

My Griff had a squeaking clutch pedal for some time (30K on clock). Cured it by squirting WD40 around its pivot point. Stick your head down the footwell for a look, taking a torch and can of WD40. (Helps if you are a contortionist)

Thanks for the advice, I will try the WD40 as it sounds like the least hassle (cheapest) option.

If this fails I'll get it checked on the next service, still changes gear fine, but starting to get very annoyed with the squeek...

Thanks to all of you again.....
