Urgent Question on SL65 Brakes
Discussion
My new to me SL65 is at the dealer having a check over and for them to sort a clicking noise from a front brake disc.
The clicking noise has been sourced to a worn anti-rattle spring within one of the front discs. The service guy is telling me that 1) the spring cannot be removed from the disc to be replaced and 2) these springs cannot be procured separately anyway.
Does anyone know if the above is correct please?
So consequently they are saying it needs a new disc + pads on one side because of the above, am conscious given the cost of these monster discs that am not getting taken for a ride !!
Also, they are saying it would be fine to change the defective front disc and leave the other existing disc as no problems with it. Is it ok to mix new and old discs on the same axle?
Thank you for your help

firstly take your car away from this idiotic dealer.
Is he a Merc dealer??
I am not familiar with the 65's brakes but you would Never change one side on any car.
You need a second opinion, if you travel to Stoke M Benze they will check it out for no charge.
Do the discs and pads need changing anyway?
Great to see your now in the Merc club
Pm me and we can have a chat.
Mark.
Hope your CL65 is sorted now.
Spoke with the service manager at the dealer last night and he is calling me Monday with the proper low down, the other guy I was dealing with is new.
On a +ve note am loving the car, the engine is a monster and the torque incredible

I've got the same two piece brakes as you on my SL55 (with F1 Performance Package) and think my front discs might need replacing fairly soon so was interested in how much they are charging you assuming you are having new one's fitted?
You can PM me if you prefer not to discuss figures in public.
Many thanks,
CycleSi

Not as expensive as you might be thinking...
Just had my disks and pads changed all-round (SL55) and it came to less than a grand. That was from my local (very good) indi, and I dread to think what a Merc dealer would charge.

Got sorted today and collected the car, very impressed with the main dealer now after my initial frustrations ..... was won over by the service manager’s straight talking attitude and their customer service these last few days. I never thought I would write this about a main MB dealer but these boys have a passion for the motors, the master tech working on my car especially. Plus was given an indie rivalling hourly labour rate (given is an older motor) and good discount off all the parts used.
Upon arrival was shown to the car still on the ramps and spoke with the helpful AMG master tech working the motor plus shown the defective disc. The rattling in this disc under braking was caused by wear in the many bracket / mounting pieces where the little bolts pass through on the 2 piece disc / hub interface. AMG say these bolts should not be retorqued once wear occurs in the brackets hence a new pair of discs required.
Cost for the new front discs and pads was just under 2 bags to use the southern vernacular, am content that it was necessary to have them changed due to the above.
Whilst there also had oil + filter, spark plugs, gearbox + diff oil, air + fuel filters changed, and also geometry check. Motor is turbine smooth and feels stronger than before.
Went for a blast tonight and feels ballistic
