What car have you had which was just a nice, relaxing place.

To be? The kind of car that helped you relax at the end of a hard day? Im not necessarily talking about fast cars either, just the kinda car you liked to sit in, the type of car you didnt mind being sat in a traffic jam in for ages, or stuck on the motorway not moving. Maybe the word im looking for is cosy?
I expect a few jags to get posted, or something similar.
Anyway, mine is this, mainly because the rear tints made it real dark (and i hate cars that feel light and let too much light in), it felt really large, comfortable and quite nice to drive. Sitting in a traffic jam on a cold, wet winter night during evening rush hour, with the rain pouring down.... i used to love it, just being sat there in the car.... I must be going mad

Volvo S60.
Normally i like to drive everything as though I had procured it through not entirely legal means.
This brought out my inner doddery old man. Quite happy bumbling along and enjoying the supreme comfort of the seats.

I'm the opposite. I like as much light as possible. My old Z28 had sculpted deep leather chairs, glass in every direction including up and you could sit in traffic with the rain bouncing off all the glass around you, the big sound of a woofling V8 playing in the background, the smooth and effortless surge of the auto gearbox and the pleasurable "drone" when moving off that vibrated through your whole body. In the summer it was even better as the T-tops came off and you get the full soundtrack and could do that slight lurching "I can barely contain the power" thing with the autobox.

I'm with you! .Wafting is great don't get me wrong but having glass all round while being cosetted in body hugging air conditioned leather with well in excess of enough 'oomph' to show most things a clean pair of heels is bliss.
My current Volvo V50 T5 R is rather nice and comfortable. Done over 500 miles in the last week, mostly being A roads in Scotland's finest area. Really can't fault it, so-much-so that I'm looking forward towards the 200 miles home tomorrow

S60. Get in, clunk the door closed and it feels safe and solid. Seats are great. The centre console is angled towards the driver so it feels quite intimate but it is quite airy as well, especially specced with light coloured dashboard and seats. The air seems clean and fresh because Volvo spec non-allergenic materials. At night it lights up like the Starship Enterprise.
As a result of all this, it's a very nice and relaxing place to be - as someone said above, Volvos turn you into a Volvo driver.

I've always loved BMWs and used to drive about like my hair was on fire, 7 years working for Volvo and having them as company cars turned me into a comfort loving, distance driving, Radio 4 listening old fart.
Which in turn has rendered my taste in BMWs at 30 years of age and for the last 4-5 years to being the Seven Series having been my favourite of the bunch, when really it should by rights be an M Car of some variety. Of the Volvo range, the S80 is the finest at the required task and a V8 one of those is about the only thing that may tempt me out of one Seven or other some day.
Nothing much wrong with Jaguar XJs or post 2004 S-Types either and honourable mention goes to the Rover 75 2.5 auto.

Pop the cruise on at ~80, sit legs akimbo with one hand resting on each leg. From this position I can grip the wheel between my fingertips and waft along in relative silence and supreme comfort. Sad to say I pop an audiobook on and before I know it, 100 miles later I'm home and fresh as a daisy.

Have had two of the 4.4 V8 S80s and I have to say they were cracking cars for gobbling up the motorway miles. Sounded good and a bit of fun too.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
