Searched and couldn't find anything!

No doubts modern LS's are better/easier/more suited to an Ultima, but ignoring those facts, what do you guys think?

WHEN I build mine i'd like to do something different, seems like a "pretty" hot engine smile

Please dont ask why lol

I've got both cars and I don't think the AJP engine would suit an Ultima. You can also get far more power out of an LS7 if you wanted, and parts are much more readily available and cheaper.

You would need to get an adaptor plate made to fit a Porsche gearbox and your maximum n/a power would be below 500hp (even at 4.7 liters).

It would be an interesting engineering exercise though!

If you wanted to completely re-engineer the rear section of the chassis you could use the AJP8 as a stressed member.... a lot of work though!

Or you could just do it with a LS7.......

are you sure an LS7 block is up to it ?

... looks like its just the adaptor plate that's stressed (although I doubt there's much loading into it with all the bracing around it)

Interesting question! I am a big fan of these engines, especially since they are so small and light, apparently, relative to their capacity.

I posted in the TVR section looking for an engine 12-18 months ago as I was actually interested in seeing how easy it would be to adapt to the Porsche 'boxes and seeing whether it was possible to drop in the back of my track 996 as the 996 engine can be fragile, RUF had just released their V8 911 and there should have actually been a weight saving out the back...

I moved to Singapore before I actually got anywhere with it. However, don't the AJPV8s have their own problems? Although not as 'bad' as the Speed6, I was under the impression that they had some reliability issues.

Would make for a nice, light car though if you were looking for out and out weight savings and a little less power than say an LSx.

Engine only stressed in a vertical plain down the centre of the engine, all the twisting stresses are removed by the Tri bars going to the adaptor plate. The load path for the inboard suspension puts the roof in tension, and tries to twist the Tri bars under cornering loads. Transferring the loads to the cage helps disperse the energy and increases the rigidity...

If you look inside a ajp engine then you will stick to good old us muscle because from an engineering standpoint its not good!!

Is kidding allowed?

If you want to do something "really" different, then take an air-cooled Tatra V8 engine from Czech.

^Air and exhaust duct together in one tubing. Sounds agressive...

These already have been used in supersport-cars like the MTX in 1991, are race-proven and
in some current setups they deliver reliable 400hp.

I have seen pictures of a flat six (assuming it was a Porsche engine) in one from quite a few years back.

It must be possible to invert the transmission on the Porsche engine to make it mid-engined. Wonder how they will manage the heat/inter-coolers.

not the best pics but this is Lawerence Farmers car in Northren California with a turbo Porsche motor in it. Lawerence's work is very professional. The car has several really intresting mods on it like removable bars in the back to make engine/tranny removal easier, a removable floor below the pedal box for acsess to the pedals ect. But there is no getting around the fact that the engine compartment in this car is stuffed to the gills. Lee

I have a contact that makes some very nice cnc billet heads for the Porker race motors... not cheap though (around £1000 per cylinder!) seems porker-racers do have deep pockets. A few weeks ago the same shop were mid preparation of an older turbo, fitting bespoke moulded carbon wings (fenders) and openers (doors bonnet boot etc)... 300-400K finished track car !

Looks mostly intercooler under that rear clip Lee... Great looking alternative installation though.
What sort of output are they managing ?

Didn't that porsche engined ultima have the exhaust exiting out the side pods?.... Bassicaly they left the turbos facing the same way as they do in the 911s.
