I have the Adamesh "straight through" back pipes with no silencers. While it adds a bit of growl it adds a fair old bit of irritating drone and resonance too around 1800rpm.

I'm thinking of changing to the half system from Elite (not the Larini one, but Elite's own). Does anyone have any experience of this? Not too loud? (Although is it any more growly than the standard Jag one - is it just the same thing but in stainless steel)? Any drone?

I also note you can get entire full length hand bult stainless steel systems from the likes of Tony Banks and MIJ in Walsall for less money. Has anyone any advice on any of these systems? Thanks.

Anyone have any more advice generally on “upgrading” exhaust to get a bit more rumble?

I was getting my other car serviced the other day and the mechanic there had some American muscle cars in there that he works on for himself. He was suggesting that the American engines are specifically designed to give the rumble. It struck me then that for those XKs I’ve heard with upgraded exhausts, it’s not the engine I can hear, but the tail pipes.

Am I correct in this?

Agreed. We fitted one for a customer a couple of months ago. Sounded great.

I have the Adamesh rear straight pipes.

Just buy some dynamat for the boot and the resonance will be gone.

My boot is mostly covered in sound deadening and packed full of underlay and carpet, inches thick.

It has reduced it but far from completely removed it. It's still very obvious and not comfortable.

Something has gone wrong when you have to put carpet in the boot, there are good systems out there.

There's a big difference though between volume and "drone".

Hi.
I think each installation of the Adamesh rear pipes provides a different amount of resonance. Mine isnt too bad but I have a young baby and wanted a quiet cruise, so i added the dynamat to the boot & all the resonance has gone, just a meaty V8 growl left.

Sounds like yours is a worse level of resonance if thats still an issue after soundproofing.
