Why can't I....
Discussion
Combination of things IMO
So cheap that "it's too good to be true, so probably isn't"
Mileage (can.t do much about that !)
Your disarming honesty about faults and foibles (people are bound to assume there's more you're not saying)
Unfortunately, people remain sceptics when it comes to private sales of used cars...
Put word about in your social circle. A for sale card in the window while you're out and about. Take it to some classic car events......

Looked at this myself and first thought was its too cheap so whats wrong with it and prob the gearbox problem will put a lot of people off.
I guess you will have the same prob of location as we do up in Scotland but with low volume cars that should be minimised.
Love the colour of the car :-) and good luck

is that between Blenaevon and Abergavenny or overlooking Llangammarch Wells ?We're in Ross-on-Wye and trying to buy a house in/around Monmouth... bl**dy expensive compared to Herefordshire !
Must be all the PH'ers wanting a decent local drive pushing up prices

Loving Wales - Smiling, fun & friendly people (in the South anyway), clean streets, fewer chavs, free prescriptions and they spend a lot of tax ££s on great road surfaces in the unlikeliest places. One of my favourite drives (no doubt there are better ones, but I just have to go that way sometimes) the back way from Abergavenny to Builth Wells.
Anyone round there want to buy me lunch and a pint at the Felin Fach Griffin, PM me !

Anyway, the car not selling, my original reply stands !
I saw your car in the classies last night. Really nice looking colour too and some great shots. I'd ring you for £5500! But then I am (or likely was) selling the silver 400 just below it at £5995.
Truth be told, I love our Chim and I'm kind of pig sick of people getting all tarty over things like paintwork. Paintwork is in front of you, you can see it. Rarely are there any hidden issues, it's just what it says on the tin! For sub-£7k, to get a healthy engine and a solid chassis with a body that's pretty good at 10ft to me at least, thats a win! But no, it seems to thing to do is to buy a shiney one in a poncey colour because it's all sparkly and then have the chassis ends fall off and the cam wear down to near circlular shape, then take it to a TVR "specialist" and throw nearly the same amount that you paid for it to have any issues fixed, then tell all your friends how much you've spent, sell the car a year later for a huge loss and go round telling everybody how unreliable and expensive your TVR was, before buying a Boxster.
People might be put off by your earlier car as things like the T5 box, serp engine and upgraded cooling system aren't there. It doesn't matter that the LT77 box is still a respectable gearbox, pre-serp engine is in good health and you obviously can't fit a swirl pot to the cooling system can you? No, of course you can't. You've got to take it to a specialist and pay them £3,000 to pop an alloy tank in there. I'd certainly consider your car before looking at any in the boring colours with beige interiors for £3k more....yours is a cracking colour and rare, at a good price.
I'd do what I'm thinking of doing....saying screw the lot of you, this car is so good I'm going to keep it!
If that blue '93 430 isn't yours, best ignore all that

I have just sold my 450 to a guy from France. Asking price was met even though it had done 104k miles.
It was collected on the 16th June so have been without a TVR for 4 days!!
My hobby is working on them rather than the driving experience, so if any member has a good 400/450 Chim or a 400 SE Wedge that is average plus pls send me a pm.
Rgds

Big engined petrol guzzlers do seem to be generally slow in selling at the moment. I have just advertised mine as I want a Chim and really don't expect it to go quickly. Re price may sound silly but as it's under £6k it may be left out when people are searching by price. There was a guy on the TIPEC site was selling a really nice 944 turbo very cheap and had no interest for 3 months ended up relisting it at a higher price and it sold in a week.
I'm actually hoping with mine someone with a Chim is looking for something a bit different with similar performance and will do a swop or p/ex if not think I will have a long wait until it sells

That's what I'm saying ! either searching by price or they refuse to accept as genuine the concept of "priced to sell" !Don't take this the wrong way but when I was looking a few weeks ago I was quite tempted as fancied trying a 430, but the reasons I didn't bother were-wasnt sure about the pre-serp and rover gearbox, the gearbox having a fault means instantly paying out to sort something and when I looked at your profile I read one of your previous posts as your car needs a body off job this year to sort the chassis out. I know all these cars need money spending on them regularly and I know most need outrigger work but just figured dont want to be doing all this within first few months of ownership. Only how I looked at it as a potential purchaser, does look like a nice car and cheap but might be worth sorting the gearbox fault even if you put the price up slightly after this. Hope this helps.

At that price it still looks like great buy even if you had it in for outriggers at £1500 over the winter you would gain that value in the car for having them done. Same with mine at 8-9k if you wanted brand new outriggers the car would still easily be worth 10k as a 500 with new outriggers ? That was a bit long winded but you can see what I mean. People seem to expect a 10k car to be in as good condition as one for 15k
Very grateful for your comments chaps. The car would probably need, new hood (if you want perfection), wishbone & gearbox sorting out, so around £1500 max. So for around £7k you'd have a fantastic Chim 430 that would keep up with standard 500's without too much difficulty.
I was going to do the body off to get it perfect for these chaps to work their magic....

I honestly think it's better than most for sale at the mo.
