For 500 read 400

LOl just re-read your post, it was a 500 figure not a 400, silly me. Not as rare as you think, i'm sure Paul will find the lost power or tell you where its going .

I've long suspected that my Chimaera 500 might be similar. EVO's "knowledge" lists it as having 'tarmac-rippling grunt'. Although frisky, especially in the wet, I wouldn't describe my example as such and I certainly don't flatter myself as being a driving god so it must be the car down on power.

I have a 97 500 griff before I started playing with it it gave a true reading of 335 bhp on a rolling road, the handbook stated 340 bhp and to tell the truth I never doubted it , I had driven a fair few TVR's and knew it was lively. after spending a great deal of time and money on the engine mods and getting a final reading of 358 bhp on the same rolling road I concluded that apart from the enjoyment of messing about with my engine it really wasn't worth the money spent.
The car is a bugger in the wet almost to the point of madness.
It is very lumpy at tickover makes driving it in traffic difficult, when conditions do allow and its not often it is awesome. The point of this be happy with whats under the bonnet as standard, certainly your 500 does not sound right at 250 bhp its way down on power , have you done a compression test, should be coming in at around 150 psi per cylinder on a 500 HC if its not then something is badly wrong. Having a compression test done is far cheaper and easier than a session on a rolling road.

Depends which rolling road you use, In my opinion 260-270 is normal 285 is max from a standard car, 250 ish a bit on the low side, Austecs figure concur with this, having said that some rolling roads would suggest that 235 is average for a 500, some may read over 300, both would be inaccurate IMO, I am talking corrected flywheel figures.
