I need 4 doors, a boot and fun for 5k

Need to get a new second car. The criteria are:
- 4 doors
- under 10 years old
- boot big enough for a push chair
- fun to drive (obviously, this is PH after all!)
- around 5k
This is to replace my old E30 235 that was stolen last week. That car ticked all of the above except for the age, thus I didn't feel comfortable sending the wife and baby out in it. MPG isn't hugely important as the car won't do mega miles. Figures around high 20-30 would be nice though.
I'd been set on getting a 182, this would do me well, but, I want something that is a bit more practical in the family stakes. So, I'm prepared to sacrifice some of the fun and have started looking at a mk1 Leon Cupra R.
Before I buy anything I want to see what else people can think of that ticks these boxes. EP3 CTR is nice, but only 2 doors. mkV Golf GTI would be nice, but out of budget. Anything else?!

My first thought was of an Impreza wagon, but then I remembered these and they have a far less chavvy look about them, but then I've always been a fan you may not like the looks.

If you're prepared to move a little on the age - back to 98-2000 - I think either an E39 540i or similar engine, or a B5 Audi S4 would do nicely. Both are very solid-feeling cars that will crash respectably, and do not hang about either with 282 and 265bhp respectively. The 5er is obviously quite a large car anyway, and you'll be surprised when you open an S4's boot, pretty big in there.
Only thing I'd want to highlight is that rear space is a bit limited in the B5 shape Audis. Access for a baby seat fine, but legroom can be tight.

I guess I'm leaning towards something a bit "hot hatch" rather than anything else at the moment. The 330 is too similar to our other car and in time, I plan to replace that with a larger family estate anyway.

I had an R26 previously (and loved it!) A 225 would always be in it's shadow.
