Looking for advice on selling my van please

I'm about to sell my van as we're going to try to go down to one car. I don't use the van for business, just a useful snotter! I use it for my mountain biking trips and the heaviest thing it's carried since I've had it is a couple of downhill bikes and because of this it's in really good condition.

However, It's due an MOT next Thursday but is also due the annual service and has no history of having a cam-belt (although it was done 3 years ago and would be due one this year). I'm looking for advice on how I should sell it. Should I MOT, service it and do the Cam belt? Just service and MOT or Just MOT? Is it worth spending to get a better sale price? Any advice really welcomed as I've no idea what the best thing to do is.

Righto, you mean everything then, cam belt and all? Do you think I'll get my money back?

MOT yes. The others may make it easier to sell but you wont see all your money back.

MOT at the very least, and probably the service and cam belt too.

I know for sure that I wouldn't buy anything that was just about to run out of MOT.

I would be more appealing if it had a fresh service and a new cambelt too.

I wouldn't buy anything that was due a cambelt unless I could chip enough off the car to get it done.

The cynic in me says something being sold when it's due a belt change is being sold because the belt is a pig to do and it's going to be expensive.

Thanks guys. I'll suck it up and get it all done. I've just seen there isn't a van area on the classifieds section on pistonheads. Is autotrader still crap? Not really sure where to sell if I can't put it on pistonheads!

If seller gets the belt done it shows they care about the car - if it's not been done and I can't get a significant wedge off in relation to the belt needing to be done I would walk.

You won't see your money back for a cambelt change so don't bother. If the new buyer wants to have it done then that's up to them. If not then it's their risk.

2002 Berlingo 1.9 LX. It's the new shape and has air con and cd player. I've had it boarded out and fitted some saris traps to hold the bikes by the forks. Since I've owned it it's only ever carried mountain bikes so it's really really clean. I recon it should sell easily enough.

Thanks for the advice, I'll do the belt and service too. It should sell easier then!

Generally, I don't even bother looking at stuff if the belts are (over) due.

More hassle that it's worth - and generally a sign of an owner who treats their vehicles as disposable white goods.

Get the belts done as well. You can blend the cost into the selling price.
