her indoors thinks the cars to loud(shes right in this case),sports exhaust and no cats,if i put the cats back on will that make a lot of diffrence to the power and would it make the car quieter?

Putting the cats back in will quieten it down and I dougbt very much if you would notice any difference in the power. Most people de-catt for the pops and bags and to reduce heat build up at the chassis where the catts are, there is also a small gain in power but as i said difficult to notice the diference in my opinion.

I have/had Cats on mine and I can see right though them, I'd be surprised if they are/were worth much more than 7 - 8 Db. TBH the only thing attempting to muffle the exhaust are the tiny rear sports boxes. Yes - they are great in tunnels, but they don't allow for subtle progress.

I've emailed the seller above on ebay.. from what I understand the lengths on 4.2s and 4.5s are different and they are advertised for both

I've quite exhaustively tested sound levels on different exhaust systems in the past, with and without cats.
Cat's can make upto 10db difference, but they really do heat up the cabin, gearbox and clutch.

ACT do some silenced cat replacements, they might help.

Darren - 'sports exhaust' often just means someone has removed the perforated pipe in the silencer boxes and replaced with non perforated pipe. To make quieter change it back with some of your legendary welding and stuff with wadding....
