Building Air Con for Home - Cost etc?
Discussion
Hi,
I tell you what, it's bloomin' hot here!! I've got a portable a/c unit which I can wheel about, but I'm considering putting in proper built in air con into my next house. It will be a 'retro fit' into a house which is already built. I'll want it in the lounge which will be at the back of the house and probably fit above the patio door. I'll also want it in the bedroom.
Has anyone done this kind of thing? Any ideas on rough costs range and other considerations?
Any thoughts appreciated.
Cheers!

As a basic rule of thumb you need 1kW of output per 10sqm of floor area - hence a 5 x 6 room needs a 3kW unit.
If it's only for cooling you can go for a cheap unit (non inverter, look it up!).
If you are using it for heating as well in a house you should have something decent (Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Fujitsu, Hitachi, Daikin etc etc) AND an inverter.
