1) You go to a a gym with air con, do 20 mins on the cycle at a fairly heavy intensity and coem off sweating a fair bit
2) You buy a bike for us in your garden. On a really hot day you do 10 minutes at a less intensive pace than the above but due to the heat you are sweating twice as much.
With a) you probably get your heart beating faster for longer but with b) you get a huge amount of sweat.
Which of the above is better for someone trying to lose fat?

In the second scenario your heart will have to work harder to pump blood to your skin in order for sweat to cool you down...and as it's warm outside your heart will
be working very hard,because your sweat will not be cooling you down as it evaporates too quickly.But no way using the same energy as your muscles would in 10 mins.

Buy a HR monitor
If you keep your HR @ 150 you burn same cal's etc, regardless of the ambient temperature, just make sure you stick to target HR range and routine length and adjust pace.
10 mins outside in the garden won't lose much fat or get you fit, you want a good 40 mins @ 130-140 RH

But the heat/sweat thing is complex and depends how fit you are and how much lard you have keeping heat in etc, i ran/biked for 2 hours in the heat last night and found it easier
than being in the gym with aircon, bugs were a nightmare tho

When performing aerobic exercise in the heat, vasodilation of the skin occurs to facilitate cooling. This causes decreased blood flow to the respiratory system which in turn causes the heart rate to go up. Because of the increased heart rate in warm weather, more calories are burned than when exercising in the cold.
There are mitigating factors but heat exchange is much less efficient when training in a warm environment.

So decrease pace and keep HR at the same level?, be interesting to know how many more cal's are burnt as the temp goes up. Like a said if he purchased a monitor and keeps HR steady he'll be on the right track etc.
When we were out fell-running last winter it was -15 outside and still sweated and burnt the same amount of cals as warmer sessions in gym. Hard on the lungs and had to wear gloves but fun all the same.
Gold - how do you find your performance being effected training in different temp zones, personally i either sweat more or less but actual HR and performance changes little tbh.

Yep back off the effort,or use the gym.Curiously I set my best half time in Buxton a while back.A stinking hot day,lots of runners collapsing..it's a very hilly half.
Generally if it's hot I'll switch to either a shorter,less intensive run or do the run later in the evening or go indoors.
I've found I don't suffer because of the heat during the run,but I can feel wiped out the following day and it's unpleasant.
I've raced (running) in everything from -10C to 35C 90% humidity. As usual the 7Ps apply (Proper Planning & Preparation Prevent Piss Poor Performance).
If it's warm and humid I take on extra fluids before and during the race (if applicable). My PBs tend to have been run in 15-25C but the most important aspect is lack of wind. I ran a decent half (68:08, PB at the time I think) in Italy with snow on the roads, but it was a bright, still day so no problem going at a decent rate.
