It breaks my heart to see even Clarkson raving about yet another Krautwagon which will be driven by tossers who work in sales or accountancy and are egotistical pricks. It seems to me that they and the rest of the country seem to have lost all pride in our own UK manufacturing industry and aren't/weren't remotely as positive when TVR/LOTUS/MCLAREN/JAGUAR/ROVER/ASTON/LAND ROVER etc etc are road tested.
Sadly at work that more people aspire to own a BMW than say a Lotus and I just don't get it at all. Beemers are ugly, ungraceful, have a plasticky dashboard that looks like it's made of several pieces bolted together that were originally taken from different cars, they're also overpriced for the performance on offer and according to several examples I personally know of they are not even reliable and are extremely expensive to fix when they go wrong.
Audis I can understand the appeal of - they have excellent understated design, are beautifully built and seem to be pretty reliable (although not as reliable as Ford according to one garage owner I know very well).
Liked the E-type feature though. A chum at work has just dropped £60-£70k on a new M3 - but frankly for £60k you could have a new Jag XK or a fairly new Aston V8 Vantage and either of those utterly demolishes the Krautwagon on looks, quality of materials and driving pleasure.

If you can't see the appeal of a 1M coupe then I have to ask what you're doing on this site. I'd take a Cayman R myself but find the 1M a rather lovely thing. I'm sure it's fun to drive but it's a horrific clumsy looking little thing, the wheels and arches aren't in proportion with the rest of the car and it looks too boxy. And in bright orange I'd be embarrassed to be seen in it - how many people that think an Impreza/Focus ST/Evo looks 'chavvy' would happily be seen in this just because the BMW badge makes it ok?

I think it looks fab tbh. Chunky, to the point and purposeful. If anything I'd say the styling ethos has a lot of 60/70's muscle car about it. Not pretty at all, but aggressive, purposeful and good looking.WTF is going on with that rear wheel-arch?

Its the first BMW I have liked in a while, always wanted an S54 breadvan myself but never got around to owning one. £40K is steep but measured on performance it has to be said its not bad value compared to other new cars in the same league. Watching the footage does seem to indicate its a bit of a handful 
People should be applauding the concept quite frankly instead of bringing out the 'I hate Clarkson stick'. Mind you he's never going to win many friends on here critisizing the PT Cruiser and the new Chinese MG
