Hullo,

Cycled in this morning. After about a mile I started to hear a slight crunching/creaking noise from the crank area under load. I got off and checked whether the pedals/pedal stems had come loose. They hadn't. Continued my journey and it's just got worse.

Does that sound like my bearings have gone? There's certainly no jolting that I can perceive.

Cheerio,

R.

If your crank had snapped it would be worse than some crunching, if there is play in the crank then your bottom bracket could be toast, if it is still tight you could be ok, might just be the chain rubbing on the front derailer or the bearings in the BB needing a clean & regrease. Take to a bike shop and ask them to have a check over.

Isolate the problem by turning pedals and crank individually. Could just be something needs tightening up or regreasing.

You might be right re: greasing. It does rather sound like somethings gone dry. Will pop it over to my local shop later today.
