Just wondering if there is any kind of free service like this, for those who haven't seen the adverts it's a service where you text a cars Reg and they give you a brief history and tells you if its been involved in crashes or stolen

Won't give you the history, just the basic info and you have to pay for the history.

Also, be wary of these cheap services. I did a MyTextCheck on a car and it came back as being stolen recovered, but this information wasn't on the proper HPI check that I did a few days later.

Theory is that they are sometimes "creative with the truth" to make you call their premium rate lines only be told (after holding for ages, of course) that it's a mistake.

You pay the £2.99 to get the history... the app itself is free

According to my text check my 51 plate saxo with 110,000 miles is worth £1,490 in a private sale. That 4 quids worth it.
