We've got a load of (now rusty) reinforced steel bar. Some 6m lengths, but mainly approx 3m, bent at 90 degrees. Is it worth anything as scrap, or to some budding welder? Or should I just take it to the tip?

If you have a scrapyard with a weighbridge nearby, stick it in your car, weigh in, weigh out when unloaded, and get paid for the difference.

Guess it must be as the 2 foot square grid of the stuff that was lying on our spoil heap at the end of the drive was taken by some gentlemen in an old Transit tipper. Even our builder was amazed they even bothered with such a small piece.

Given I had a hundred quids worth delivered (at the wrong time so I wasn't in) and the neighbour had to almost physically stop the scrap metal men (I'm using the polite english) from thieving it from half way up the garden, I'd say yes...

Anything from 15 to 25 pence a kilo
Stainless is £1/kilo....
I had some steel delivered (£300 worth) a few weeks back for yet another project, the delivery truck stopped, and I gave the delivery driver a hand putting it in the garage. We hadn't even stopped unloading it, and a white unmarked Transit Luton pulled up 20 yards down the road.
A rather unkempt person with a strong Irish accent shot over, wandered right into the garage bold as brass, eyes ablaze and wondered if I had any scrap metal around that I wanted to sell. FFS Paddy, we don’t even have it off the truck! Luckily, I was thinking on my feet this time I and my phone on me, so took it out, took his photo, which he WASN'T keen on, and then a photo of the van. I think he realized that I knew what his game was, and off they went. The delivery chap said in some towns they spot the truck and actually follow him round, noting what he drops off and where....
Pleasant chaps no doubt. rolleyes

Staying away from the racial stereotypes - the scrap men round here have just been done by the council after noise complaints (and a violent outbreak when they were served the order). They were from fairly reasonable houses 20 miles away. One was a new build (I looked up the addresses given in the paper on streetview), the other council. So I guess it is in this case unfair to assume that they are caravan dwelling travellers. They are however common thieves. They've also been done for stealing two prams out of unlocked porches. I hear them twice a day, everyday for about 20mins at a time, with the horn on loudspeaker (the amplification is illegal). Probably the one thing I hate most about living in the Midlands.
