Running In Procedure
Discussion
Using the manufacturers method is kinder to your crank but doesn't promote a really good piston ring seal.
Death from day 1 as you call it, and done in the right manner may not be quite as kind to your crank but will indeed create a better ring seal and isn't a process that takes many hundreds of miles to complete. Engines with better ring sealling make more power than those without.
All i would say is this....
A properly rebuilt engine with top quality parts will not fail under method 2. If your engine has not been rebuilt properly or been rebuilt with sub standard parts it's likely it will fail at some time whichever method you use.
Using method one may not reveal any weaknesses in the engine build until some time in the future after you have completed running-in however, when you eventually start really pushing the engine it's almost a certainty the engine will fail.
At least using method 2 you will show up weaknesses sooner than later which in my book is preferable. At least then you have some comeback with the engine builder and it's more likely you'll get either a refund or the engine rebuilt with new parts.
Personally i would want a refund and take my money elsewhere.
New cars and motorbikes at the end of the production line are put through a process of having the engines nuts revved to oblivion, in gear on a rolling road of course, for an extended period of time to make sure the engine doesn't fail so If there is a problem with the engine build or drivetrain it should show up at that time.

Thanks for the heads up. I had a look and some nasty person had added a script to my index page and also to my statcounter system which only I can access and only I could be affected by.http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

Anyway that maybe explains why I keep finding Trojans on my pc. I've removed all the scripts and I'll keep an eye on it. Maybe time to move to a third party web hosting service.
Sorry if anyone else has been affected. I recommend MBAM to remove these sorts of nasties.
