Hi Guys, posting on behalf of a friend.

Whats the general perception of these ? will be auto diesel model.

Any problems with engines gearbox or transfer box ?

Have heard conflicting stories regarding reliability especially in the electrics department.

Any models to avoid etc etc.

Thanks in advance.

I have an 08 plate HSE which I have owned since pretty much new.

Only problem I have had has been the front badge falling off somewhere on the M25 !
Apart from that its been great so far, very reliable and very capable in the winter weather.

Thanks guys, not the same sort of issues that dogged some of the discoverys a few years back then, good to hear.
Any problems with electrical gremlins to be aware of ?

Never had a single problem in 3 years of ownership. Ours was diesel manual and was fine, nice and nippy. Little dated feeling inside compared to the xtrail which replaced it, but good machines without a doubt

Land Rover seem to have got it right with the Freelander 2 in terms of reliability. Great road car and very capable off road too. The Auto diesel is definitely the one to go for though. If buying new, you get the choice of 2wd and 4wd too.

We've got a 6-speed manual and an auto ; the manual is the preferable machine without doubt . The auto suits the calibre of the car , but seems to hunt up and down the box far more often than the Mercedes we run , and is between 6 and 8 mpg worse depending on use .
The manual has a light positive change , so is no chore .

I think you are talking Freelander 1 with it's woes. The FL2 is a fabulous vehicle, does everything without fuss. 2.2 Auto is a great package. A very reliable car.

Have owned a 2.2 Auto HST since Sept 2009 and touch would been very reliable and no issues so far. Would certainly recommend

We've recently had a manual 2.2eD4 delivered (2x4) in Galway green and almond interior . We ordered a 2.2 TD4 (4x4) but that's another story.

Can't recommend it enough. Have covered 3.5K already and it's been a joy. A very well dampered car, feels a lot bigger than it is (in a good way) and quality seems first rate.

I was quite sceptical when the o/h said she wanted one but wish it was my main car now.

My sister has the TD4 and her husband likes it so much he is looking at swapping his A6 for one.

Am a little late to the party here, but am seriously considering a TD4 Auto but have read quite a few owner reviews that complain about fuel economy being well below expected.

How have you guys found yours? I'd hope for 35+ combined with 40ish on motorway - am I dreaming??

Cheers

No chance I'm afraid, unless you go for the manual. I get low 30's combined, mid 30's on the m/way with my auto. Love it. My dealer has just offered me a awesome deal on a new Range Range, but I have no reason to trade it aside wanting a full fat!

Are the auto's really that bad on the juice? Mine was a manual and easily saw 35mpg doing the regular bobbing around, and 39 on the run.

Yes, the autos really suck the juice, but at the same time really make the car IMHO. The 6 speed, now 8 speed autos used by Jag/LR are fabulous.

Our HSE from new when they first came out was fabulous but could not tow the weight we required. The D4 we upgraded for is great but a little iffy on the electrics.
