Tourist Buying a Cheap Track Car

Hi All,

Coming in from Oz for a holiday and want to get a car I can drive around Europe.

Possible to buy something interesting but not expensive?

Possible to buy anything at all???

Lets say I'd consider something under 500 pounds..

Is that even possible? And would I actually be able to buy it if I'm an Australian resident and have no UK address?

Anyone can buy a car in the UK, however registering it will be a problem as it will need to be registered to you at a UK address.

Why not just buy a house over here too to get around the address registration problem?

Could you not hire something for £500? How long would you want it for? how far around Europe are you going? Would you sell it after your trip?

It might be pie in the sky, but the reason I would wanna buy something is that I do wanna drive to Germany and have a go on the 'Ring.. Or the Isle of Man..

I know some places hire out cars to drive on the 'Ring, but they look kinda expensive. Just seeing if there is an alternative.

I know whatever I buy I probably can bring back with me (I think I need to live in the UK for x amount of yrs) so I would sell it omce I'm done.

A disposible car for three weeks use please!

How long are you coming over for and when? You will need an address to register it and insure it for 3 weeks. You need to befriend someone on PH's I can't see how you can do this without an address that you can "Live" at for the sake of buying and insuring said car.

I still think a Hire car for 3 weeks is your best bet really.

I think you're going to have to choose on condition rather than be fussy about the make/model of car. You're going to have fun on the Ring whatever you get.
Make sure its got decent amount of tax left and loads of MOT.

Surely the local classifieds, Loot, E&M etc, will have something local to buy for cash.
Then could it be registered to the hotel you're staying at?

How long does it take to send of the log book and get it registered..?
