Afraid so, not sure how much work is being done to the old KC-135 airframes. I imagine they may have seen less use over the years than the R1s. Shame there wasn't a new aircraft we could buy off the shelf with this kit fitted in. Not sure on these RC-135s, as the US RC-135s are quite old, will these be coming with secondhand internals/equipment?
I believe they are keeping the tradition numbering wise, IIRC these will be ZZ664, ZZ665 & ZZ666. Nimrods were in the same number range (apart from XV249, which was a converted MR2 to replace XW666).

You are aware that the R1s are not the same as the MRA4s or even the (early retired) MR2s?You are aware that we have now binned a major ISTAR asset at a time when the bumbling fools in Downing Street have just committed us to a further 'Foreign Intervention' (where 'Int' is of premium value).
It amazes me that, for a Forum supposedly full of aircraft enthusiasts, how pathetically little knowledge a majority have about how our Armed Forces are being serially fecked over.

I serially wonder why I and my colleagues gave up so many Xmas's, New Years, Bank Holidays, Leave, etc, for such an apathetic British Public.
Nimrod was pretty much my favourite aircraft as a kid, I still think they are one of the most classic aircraft shapes aswell. I used to see them all the time when on holiday in Newquay.
Was looking forward to seeing the MRA4, being a world leading platform operating for many years to come
I am aiming to get to Waddington this weekend to see both of the remaining R1s on static. I think they may both going to museums, one I believe is earmarked for Duxford.
The early retirement, with a capability gap seems a bit shortsighted IMHO. Wonder whether its capabilities would have been useful for security at the Olympics next year.

That would appear to be so, but he didn't get to be PM by being stupid or naive.
