Im sure that I read a magazine article when the Griff was originally launched saying that they considered it to be this generations E-Type and Cobra rolled into one. Certainly if you look at some of the styling of both there is more than a passing resemblance. Griff does look(and sound) much better!!!! hehe

Bring the concept right up to date I'd say - a speedster-type car consisting of Cerbera front end including that low windscreen, Griff/Chim length doors with Cerbera height glass and Chim/Cerb-based rear end on a T-car wheelbase would look jolly nice I think.

Would've sold better than the Tamora, too... wink

Nice concept.

Tamora didn't sell well because it looks like a smilie smile!

didnt the chim and cerb have the same front and rear anyway ?

and the tamora didnt sell cause it sounds too much like lloyd grossman saying tomorrow....

and another thing... clarkson.. "oh look at the straight 6 engine in the speedster, and listen .. its spitting fire"

so it was a doppleganger for a griff with an ajp lump... but for 500,000. bargain.

its ppl like him (and the russian) that have sunk tvr, we are just not on his radar. when jackie stewart wanted to train cpt.slow he took him out in a tuscan, when hamster wanted to beat a gatso camera he had to use a tuscan, when the stig wanted to show off those ridiculous red smoking tyres he needed ... a tuscan... and we all remember the blackpool rocket footage.

but still all he ever said was "owning a tvr is like owning a bear, itll all be great then one day itll pull your head off, and it will"

see vbh on fifth gear with the t350 and tuscan, or that plato fella in a sagaris... they are loving it, but jezza, too keen on the jokes these days.

I've plans for an Eagle E-Type as the cars are exquisite. I'd never seen the Speedster and I just loved it. I found myself thinking I would get one of those instead. Then they mentioned the price. I laughed and cried and choked at the same time.

It takes a hell of a lot to beat a mint Griff, a hell of a lot. And this car does do that. But at half a bar, I think the Griff has it by a clear mile biggrin

You'd be surprised about the differences when you put the two side to side. The Cerb did start out as a 'Chim +2' but quickly evolved into something rather different. For starters, the front end was lenghtened by a good few inches in order to reinstate a visual balance with those l-o-n-g doors... Also, the Cerbera bonnet and bootlid don't feature the compound curves (left-to-right) of the Chimaera's (plus those bonnet slats on the Chim that look like someone has peeled them open using a Samurai sword, one cool detail if you ask me - the Cerb's solution is a lot more restrained but then its overall shape is rather more dramatic.)

Love them both to bits... bow

I loved it, looks very much like a Griff and that engine was just awesome, gutted when he stated price though.

I think anyone who knows about cars knows JC talks absolute crap most of the time. Sensationalist crap. Shock tactics designed to get people to watch the show. Truth is way down the list.
TVR are/were an easy target - no safety aids, suspect reliability - and any expert down the pub has the same view of them.
But for those who know...
Be interesting to start with 1/2 mill and see how much of a Griff you could build with it.
Bet however hard you tried you'd end up with a 500bhp Griff... but still have 400k+ left over biggrin
Best to ask Onno that question biggrin

Re Clarkson, never understood why people get upset by him. He is simply an amusing tabloid journalist who says and writes what pops into his mind that day with intent to entertain. You know that the next day it'll be completely different and you know that if you sat him down and asked him to justify a remark he would just laugh. He's brilliant at what he does but I think some people think he does something else. I think it says more about the people who seem offended when he doesn't say that their car is the best thing in the world than it does about him. He's certainly never lied about a TVR, only pointed out things that we know to be true and he's certainly said far more possitive things than negative.

Look I like to watch. And I laugh along with it as much as the next. My point is only that his opinion shapes so many armchair critics ideas that inadvertantly he can sink ships. Lancia will take an age to relaunch and overcome rust. We still haven't forgiven skoda and it would seem we should have an alfa despite the fact they will let us down.
Maybe the fault lies with the gullible general public rather than him. I've had 3 different tvrs and found all to be furiously fast and no more unreliable than the 911 I just sold.
U try telling that to some tt down the pub.

Caring about what a tt says is akin to caring what Anne Widdecombe says about your nob. They have no knowledge on the subject and they aren't ever going to have any experience either. biggrin

The reason he is the average bloke down the pub is exactly the same reason he has little to no knowledge that is debatable or applicable and exactly why he absorbs the messages Clarkson puts out, because he hasn't ever had the amazing rush of blood and thought process that it might be a pile of old bks, loosely based on some half truths in a tabloid style, "bloke down the pub told me""its on TV so it must be true""the greatest car journo is Clarkson""no one can know more about cars than Clarkson" etc etc. These people have not the capacity to challenge and evolve their opinions, they just hear it the first time and then seek to prove it by repeating it until someone agrees and they can continue to only look for the evidence to support their own narrow views in to the future . . . It makes life simpler for them. They can assess each Vectra on the quality of velor, alloy wheels and how many badges it has. Track suit shopping is easy, buy one white one for the summer and one black one for the winter, trainer shopping is now easier as it just is white Reeboks, why would I need anything else.

When they win the lottery they will buy a Porsche, because they are reliable (unless you research the current offering which seems little more reliable than the S6 and they have undeniable issues since they moved to water-cooled motors except for those with the GT1 block such as the Turbo), why do they believe that, because they get told that by the press.

They will also buy a Rolex, because that is the best watch brand in the world (they are very good, but for me they are now very very over priced for what you get and there are more fakes than anything else out there) but it is a consequence of marketing and messages and their total lack of ability to challenge the norm and seek an alternative.

I even know literate, intelligent individuals who believe what Clarkson spouts. They own other sports cars and moan about reliability, but the biggest slice of banter is always saved for TVR, we are a target, get over yourselves, laugh it off.

TVR's do suffer with an element of unreliability and deserve somen of their reputation, if it wasn't for the owners the garages would be a lot fuller than they are now . . So do Ferrari, Porsche and others but they don't get the press.

Are we a bunch of over educated individuals generally who obsess about one marque of sports car in particular and therefore feel overly sensitive to defend their P&J at every opportunity . .. yes, we probably are.

I agree it can be frustrating, but then just ask said average man what his plans are for sports cars or cars that are not designed to get him and his obese track suited wife and assorted children to and from Mcdonalds every day . . . often it's not a long discussion regarding the various key attributes of differing marques and his thought process (as if!) for working through the various elements, more a kinda "I had a mate who had an old Porsche etc etc"

"i'd like a Vectra GSi" etc etc etc ad nauseum . . ..

Be still my beating of the keyboard.

Indeed. Take a Tiv over to France and you do begin to wonder why you live in England.

Empty roads, no car envy, good food, good wine, good weather, nice people (unless for some bizarre reason you end up in Paris). It's a great place to tour.

But it goes without saying that we still must mock them when possible. wink

Agree with bacon, don't know what they are playing at.

I sold my old chim to a French guy. Shipped it straight off he did.
Nice guy, even sealed the deal with a glass of bin rouge. Apparantly tvr are quite admired there.
