Whats the longest road in the UK (excluding motorways)?

A5 - London to Holyhead
A6 - Bedford to Carlisle

Guess it depends how you define a road though. The A5 is Watling Street in some places, but the current A5 follows slightly different routes to the original.

Indeed at St Albans the A5 simply vanishes and becomes A5183 for a bit.

Nope it doesnt does it?

Follows the Roman A5 route until you get to Junction 7 (end of M54) then its called the A5 again to Shrewsbury

A9 in Scotland...It goes from Glasgow area and winds the whole way to the top of the country passing mountains and in the far north even has a section called berrydale with a succession of hairpins the are on the edge of a huge cliff! Thats got to be one of the longest, if not the longest!
