Hello,

Currently considering a 2004/05 645 convertible and am wondering if its possible to purchase the BMW warranty separately on a car bought privately or from a non franchised dealer?

I know with Porsche one can do this subject to a 110 point inspection and 90 days having elapsed since the purchase of the car. I can't find any such guidelines on the BMW UK wesbite, it does reference an 'invitation letter' though, presumably this is part of the renewal procedure?

Thanks,

PS: Anyone selling such a car (not silver or black) feel free to get in touch.

Yes, they can sell you a warranty, see details and options here, you can get a quote from there as well, alternatively give them a call on 02806669204.

I had seen the site but didn't realise it was so easy to get a quote, sorry, have now tried and it shows as £69/month for the Comprehensive warranty with £100 xs and Assistance. Not bad, Porsches own warranties certainly cost more.

Would be interested in knowing if its simply buy & play or if I need also an inspection etc.

Also, how good are they are paying up? I'm mostly concerned about electrical faults, roof issues, etc.

You will only be able to purchase a BMW warranty on your car if it has one already currently running and the car has less than 100k miles on it. If you had one on it and it has expired then its curtains for the BMW one, however you can purchase a non BMW warranty, but do read the small print.

That's not the case anymore. Changed a couple of years ago.
You can now take it out, just that it costs a bit more.

Also, if you're only just under 60k miles do it monthly as it stays at that price and gets renewed autmatically, where as when done yearly they ask you the mileage come renewal time, and it will jump up a lot once passed the 60k mile mark.

As said above, the rules have changed. You can indeed take out a BMW (Mondial) warranty even if it has lapsed. You don't need to get the car inspected, however you can't claim for the first month. I believe it's also more expensive for the first year.

Also as said above, 60k miles is the cut off before the prices go up dramatically, if near this take out the monthly policy and it stays the same price.

I'll be hitting 60K miles sometime next year, currently pay the whole amount in one go. I've only renewed once as the car is only 6 months off being 4 years old.

When you say it goes up dramatically by how much are we talking? Double, 50%, 20% etc of the original premium.

When I had my M3, the premium for after 60k miles was somewhere in the region of double. I should imagine that the increase would be roughly the same for all models.
