can anyone help or advise, i wired up connections for a tow bar but as soon as i finished i had no stop lights and the car would not even try to start, dead as anything, says gearbox fault on dash, i have all other lights, door locks, radio,everything except stop lights, all fuses checked, even put on another battery, cannot understand why i have nothing, not even a click, many thanks

Try resetting the enertia switch .think it's on the passenger side footwell.

Thanks again, but no go, inertia switch did need pushing in but still dead as a dodo and still saying gearbox fault, found the swith on the drivers side, any other thoughts please reply

Must be a fuse, check all fuses in engine bay fuse box and behind glove box.

Can you get it out of Park? Just saying this as on x300 I'm sure you won't even get it out of Park if stop lights won't function and that usually ends up being something to do with the switch at the brake pedal. Will it start in Neutral?

no cant get it out of park either, thanks anyway will try again tomorrow with a new battery and go from there, thanks for your help.will post tomorrow with any result.

Is there an over-ride switch on the gear selector panel or beneath it on the x type? There will be some way to manually press a switch that allows you to get it out of park. Try starting in neutral then?

On my XKR there is a screw you can take out next to the shift
Then out you can push a key or screwdriver down to release the shift

Thanks for all the suggestions, all tried but failed, it has gone to local Jag dealer to try and solve,
