Hi

I have got a leakage problem... power steering fluid is leaking from around the plastic cover/seal at the bottom of the steering column after the UJ where the column enters the rack.

Question is does the old one just pop out and the new push in? so it can be done in situ maybe with a bit of power steering fluid to help it slip in or do i need a puller to get the old one out and something clever to push the new in?

lastly will this actually do the job (all being well) as I have also read that this is just a cover and not the actual seal ie not the bit to replace! The part i am Looking at is

Thanks in advance, as I have nearly got the column apart now to change the seal, as long as this is all i need to do, so need some help

Hi links don't work at the moment

However i think you will find the plastic bit is just a dust shield, the hydraulic fluid seal is beneath, readily available from a bearing motor factors, bearing services etc.

Changed mine on Cerb, was ok for a while but now leaks LOL

Keep us posted

Hi

replaced the oil seal took me bl00dy ages to do over 20 hours and not very comfrtable easy position to be in for that period BUT so far so good, took a lot of time to get the old one out as carefully as possible to not scratch and damage the bore where it seals, nicked it slightly but used some silicone sealant to fill in the nick (yes it will work) i used a screw to get the old one out ie screw it into the seal and then pull out! as trying to pick pull it out just would not budge!!!

fingers very crossed that it does not leak if it does i shall get some a local garage to deal with it took too long for me when i ahve got so many other things to do...kitchen etc

happy days
