I can't believe it zig you are so unlucky. But be positive mark its not a bad job and you get to find out how it all goes back together the only problem is a couple of hundred quid for bits and heads skimmed. Don't be too down hearted mate its now a quest to get the car to the bbwf. I know you will do it also there can't be much else that can go wrong after that surely. Good luck sonner just font give up on it

I just dont have the money..I cant fix it myself as its on the street..i have the gaskets but like you say theres checking to see how straight the heads are which cost dough..Im going to ring around and try to find a garage to do it but ive got a feeling they are going to want at least a monkey..I could probably raise that but will have no money for BBWF if i make it at all..Ziga

Well i spoke to the ford garage who i swore never to used again and he has quoted me Just under £400 cash with me supplying the gaskets..The problem is he cant work on it untill 11th july which is cutting it really fine for BBWF plus i will have to borrow some money to have it done..It still doesnt explain why there is no fuel getting to No1 cylinder so even if i get the gaskets done there is still a problem..What to do?..Ziga

Ref the problem with no 1 cylinder, just because its not firing on no 1 doesn't mean no fuel. It's more likely a burnt valve.
As you car is a early one have the heads been fitted with harden valve seats, do you us an additive?
Also that is properly the cylinder which the head gasket gone! Which could be the other reason for it not firing.

A good check with a pressure gauge will tell you!

Hi Andy..when the ford garage had the rockers off he said he checked the valves and they were ok..They are soft seats and i use additive every fill up..No-one has done a proper compression test though..The rolling road said they look ok but they cant tell without a compression tester..I suppose it explains the power loss and the water loss which isnt severe..Its not dramatically overheating either but there are definitely carbons in the header..the guy round the local garage used a tester with blue liquid that turned yellow-green..

I have a compression tester which would only take 10 mins to prove some of your problem.

How old is the coolant, as the HC could have been in there for a while.

Best get a compression test done.

Also try and get someone with a endoscope to look in the bore to see if it looks steam cleaned.

I would not take it back to the Garage that have been rubbish.
I'm sure you can find somewhere better, maybe worth posting on a Capri forum for somewhere local they would recommend.

Hi Mark. Sorry to hear about your problems again.......Really feel for you mate. If there's a medal for persistance your definitely front of the queue. There is a Capri specialist down your way http://www.tickover.co.uk/. You may have already had dealings, they might be too far away, but they seem to be in your neck of the woods. I'll keep looking.....

Cheers chaps..Yes andy if you wouldnt mind..I can give it a test to see if there is any pressure..Cheers..Mark

Cheers mike..That is the garage who i have been using all along..He has helped me out but has caused some problems through being a bit sloppy around my car..He has qouted me the cheapest and he has any bits that it might need but im a bit reluctant to use him again..Although even if it gets me to BBWF and back i will get myself a 2.9 cozzy in a couple of months and have someone put that in instead..Cheers for looking..Ziga

It may be worth noting that, even if your engine is using a little water and has a slight leak through the gasket, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's about to explode in a huge ball of fire, brimstone and molten lava any moment just because of a small trace of hydrocarbons.

It might be worth bunging in a bit of K-Seal and see how it goes!

Now there s a good offer Mark, proves we all want to see you there no matter how you arrive!
That car proves its had a 100% negligent owner in the past who let one problem flow to the next then on and on untill it became a whole basket case, its better to tackle problems when they come up rather than build em up,you've just become the poor sod who's inherited the bleeding lot, still when its done you'll know everything about that car there is to know, have you thought about writing a humerous book about your escapades,I'm sure it could sell.
John.
