My Chim has a few knocks from the rear when driving over bumps and rough roads. One of them when pulling in to the driveway at an angle sounds like more of a click.

I have recently changed the rear anti roll bar drop links with the Steve Heath ones, which i thought might solve the problem but although it handles better the knocks are still there.

Is it likely to be the shock bushes? Don't know if this is a common problem. If so is there a rebuild kit I can buy to recon the shocks or would I just change the bushes.

Might replace all the rear bushes anyway as a matter or course, but would rather sort out the problem areas first as it makes it rather tedious to drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Worn CV joints tend to make a clicking noise when they are on their way out.

+1

I have this - car has always had it, and I have tried/checked everything that I can think of suspension/wishbone-wise to stop it... Yet still there.

Sounds like it comes from just under the parcel shelf - almost like its from the fuel tank... (but fairly sure it's not loose baffles).

Happens when car rolls to the side upon cornering (both sides).

Would love to find out what it is and get it sorted..?

Pretty sure this isnt a CV joint noise, as its only usually one click. Very hard noise to describe though. Maybe i'll just replace all the bushes

Jon,
Sounds like it's something shifting under load - whether that be a bush in it's carrier a bolt or even possibly the damper internals.
First thing I would do is put the rear on axle stands so there is no loading from the anti-roll bar being twisted and then methodically go round all the interfaces checking to see if there is any play - possibly loading the bushes with a pry bar - like they do on an MOT and then also check that all the bolts are tight not only on the suspension but on the brakes and drive shafts as well just to make sure.

Just had another thought, did you replace the anti-roll bar bushes when you replaced the drop links? Include the Anti-roll bar in your checks. I had an issue recently where a replacement drop link on a 5 Series was duff so it's alwaya worth a check.

My old car (not Chim) had a clicking noise from back and it was the rear drive shaft CV assembly the cure was to regrease and rotate it. This was common prob on the 350z look up clicky rear axel on google

I have this.. and the drive way one also.. when I get the car out and set off... click.. but quite a loude click....
I've changed the shocks (although still on Billies).. done the bushes, thrust washers, ARB, drop links etc etc...
Only 2 may be 3 things it can be now...
Diff moveing.. but the bushes look fine and don't appear to move
Shocks clicking... Track V Road says this will be it?
or... and this is my theory.. the drive shaft floating and hitting a stop (may be the circlip)?....
.
I know it's nothing serious so tend to put up with it...

I did replace the ARB bushes seemed pointless not to.

Sounds like a job for sunday, thanks for the help. I will let people know how I get on.

I too have rather noisy clicking (for some time now) though I'm convinced it's from the front. Not been able to find the cause yet. Interesting for me, I don't notice it at speed nor when the car is first driven. It only seems to manifest itself after a few miles and less than 30ish-mph.

Sure it's not the factory supplied cans of TyreWeld?

Re-check the ARB mounting plates welded on the radius arms. Like you I changed to Mr Heath's rose-jointed versions, and discovered breaks in the welds, so reinforced and re-welded the plates - Noise gone. It did, at the time, sound horribly like a drive-shaft related problem.
