Anyone know this car?
Discussion
Seen this in 2 adverts and im curious as to why its had a new engine. Looks like a mint car, but looks can be deceptive. Worth a punt?

There are a few Z4M S54s that have been replaced under warranty, due to various issues, but this is the first one I've seen that has simply been rebuilt.
If it had been a manufacturing quality issue then you'd think it would have been replaced under warranty.
Yeah, that was my thought. What are the main killers of the S54's then?If it had been a manufacturing quality issue then you'd think it would have been replaced under warranty.

The S54 is probably the most reliable of the S50/S52/S54 era, but you'll still get a couple that don't quite meet the spec.I've heard of them going due to VANOS failure (still), oil starvation due to faulty oil pump, bent valves, and lean fuelling due to faulty & undiagnosed MAFs.
However, there's probably a good few thousand s54b32 engines around the UK in both Z3M, M3 & Z4M guise, but I've only heard of maybe 20 failures that were warranty jobs and thus probably not 'abuse'.
If it's a warranty job, then I see it as no different that having replacement springs, oxygen sensors, or roof motors (for the roadster), but I know some people seem to immediately assume an engine replacement means it's had a hard life.

I made that assumption from the advert, but more to do with awful bling adhered to its svelte slipper like carcass. Those wheels; oh my words they are very upsetting to behold. I wasn't referring to this car, or your post, but to some of the responses on the Z4-Forum.But my immediate assumption was the same about this car when it said 'engine rebuild' as it's probably cheaper (due to labour costs) to replace the engine than to rebuild it, and a rebuild might only address the failed part and not anything that's weakened due to the failed part.
