£300 'ring banger/barge - is it possible?

Hi folks,

A good pal o' mine is getting wed next year and has decided he wants to do a run to the 'ring for his stag do, doing it in a £300 (or less!) banger.

We're likely to be in teams - reckon I can get something wafty, running and legal for £300? Could be four of us, so something luxury and barge-esque could be the order of the day?

NOT looking to buy right now, but I reckon the search is going to be a lot of fun!

You'd be lucky to get much/any MOT, tax or tyre tread for that sort of money, but you might get something vaguely resembling an automobile.

You just need to know where to look. Get friendly with someone that works at a local dealership and find out what auction houses their trade ins go to.

I think there may be a way round this though.

I've been googling away, and it would appear it's possible to get temporary registration plates for a car in Germany, without residence.

It appears it's also possible to get third party cover for the vehicle once it has those plates. I have no idea whether this is right, I don't know enough German to figure it out, but someone else may be able to wade through it and find an answer.

Well, 6 month ago I needed a car in a hurry but I wanted something interesting. I searched on ebay for any cars under £500 in the local area and put a cheeky bid of £401 on an Alfa 155 1.8TS with only 64k miles and FSH. It's got BTCC history behind it and it drive very well.

Not had to spend anything on it since I got it and it would be perfect for the 'ring - if it passes it's MOT next month be taking it there. So not too far off what you want to spend. Another suggestion would be a Nissan Primera 2.0GT. Good Luck!

Possible, I'm picking up a 01 polo gti for 300 later this month....admittedly it needs a HG but it does have a
Nearly new gearbox, perfect track slag I reckon

Funnily enough I have a HGF 205 1.4 for sale (I have the parts, just no time/skill). Great fun until it died but doesn't fit the 'barge' tag.

Similarly a complete disaster is possible if you're not.

I'd try to find a car with rough bodywork and a big engine on Ebay that stuff goes for peanuts.
