My Car Is Making a weird noise...

V reg, TDI Golf, 125K miles.

Coming back from london tonight I was getting a noise on acceleration that was like a loud hissing and a fast rattle at the same time. Plenty of smoke out the back too (on acceleration, nothing when the car wasnt under acceleration). Also, the car seems to cycle between acceleration and then losing power. Almost like I was taking my foot off the pedal (I wasnt).

Temp gauge was normal all the way home


Any ideas??

Check for a split intercooler pipe.

Split or loose pipe somewhere between turbo and intake manifold.

Well it turned out to be a loose connection at the end of the intercooler pipe, the previous owner had bodged 2 jubilee clips together to fix it!
