AIR CON PROBLEMS
Discussion
Hi, my friend Mark has a problem with his new tuscan s convert, it starts and runs fine when cold, but if he starts it when hot with the aircon on it will not tick over, if he turns the aircon off all is fine, if he then turns the air con on when going along the road all is fine untill he tries to start it again with the aircon on....Any thoughts..Gordon

Graham Varley's book does say not to start the engine with the air-con 'on'.He also mentions that it's sympathetic to turn the blower motor to low just before you switch-off - to help the heater ecu.
I guess the load imposed by air-con compressor/clutch is not helpful to an engine start....Maybe there is some sort of interlock to prevent a start with this load on the engine. Hot tickover should be 900-950 rpm...dropping to 700/750 rpm with a/c on....Which implies that the ac is a reasonable electrical load. Might be worth noting hot idle revs.
